Understanding Your BGE Electric Bill
There are four specific aspects of your electric bill that you should be familiar with.
Electric Delivery vs Supply
On the first page of your BGE bill, you will see graphs depicting what percentage of your total bill went towards thedelivery of your electricity vs. the supply of your electricity.
- BGE Electric Delivery These charges support the delivery of electricity to your home.
- Electric Supply These charges are for the electricity you used.
The important thing to understand about this section is that switching electricity providers only affects the supply portion of your bill. Delivery rates are the same no matter your electric provider.
Your Electric Choice ID Number
Directly to the right of the graph that depicts how much of your bill went to electric delivery vs supply, you will find your Electric Choice ID number. If you decide to switch electricity providers, you will need this number to make the switch.
Bill Details
On the second page of your BGE electric bill, you will find the bill details. This section breaks down all the different charges that go into your total electricity bill. This is where you can find your electricity provider and your electricity supply rate.
There is also a section directly below the bill details that gives you more information about comparing electricity rates.
Usage History
Above the bill details on the second page, you can find your usage profile over the last 12 months. This shows how much energy you have used each month, which can be helpful when determining how much you may use during the same month in the future.
