Understanding Your Ameren Electric Bill
Account Number
On the upper left-hand corner of the first page of your bill, you will find your account number. If you want to switch electricity providers, you will need your account number to make the switch.
Bill Details
On the third page of your electric bill, you will find the bill details section. This provides a breakdown of all the charges that go into your total electric bill.
- Electric Delivery – These charges go to Ameren, your utility provider, to support the delivery of your electricity.
- Electric Supply – These charges go to your electricity provider, which is the company that supplies the electricity you use. By default, Ameren is your electricity provider, but Illinois residents have the option to switch.
- Taxes and Other Fees – This includes taxes and fees that are often set by the state.
One important thing to note here is that switching electricity providers only affects the electricity supply portion of your bill. This section is also where you can find your electricity supply rate, which you can use to compare electricity providers and see if you can save. If you get your electricity supply from Ameren, this is called the Price to Compare, and you can find it below the bill details section.
Usage Levels
On the first page of your Ameren electric bill, you can find information on your energy usage history. This includes your electricity usage, and if you have it, your natural gas usage.
