How to Compare Baltimore Electricity Rates

Find the free Rate Comparison Tool at the top of the page to start comparing competing electricity offers in your area. There are a number of different factors to consider when comparing rates.

    Electricity Rates

The first thing you'll see listed for each provider is a rate. It will be expressed in cents per kilowatt-hour (cents/kWh), and you should look for a rate that is well below BGE's Price-to-Compare the rate you currently pay. Your Price-to-Compare can be found on your most recent electric bill

For some plans, you'll pay the initial rate you see advertised for the entirety of your contract a fixed rate. For others, you'll pay a rate that varies from month-to-month a variable rate. We recommend fixed-rate plans for most customers, but there are benefits and risks for both. Learn more about the differences inelectricity plan options here.

    Length of Contract

Electricity contract lengths for fixed-rate plans are generally in one- or two-year terms, but many providers offer longer and shorter plans. Variable rates are most often month-to-month contracts, will no cancellation fees (but you run the risk of paying a higher rate).

Consider how long you feel comfortable being locked into the plan you're choosing since if you leave before your contract is over you'll likely be forced to pay an early termination fee.

    Electricity Sources

For those that are environmentally conscious, many providers offer green plans that derive electricity from renewable sources, such as solar, wind, and hydropower. Providers are also beginning to offer natural gas-sourced electricity, which is not renewable but is cleaner than traditional coal-sourced power.

    Switching Baltimore Electricity Rates

Now that you have found a provider that fits your needs, switching Baltimore electricity rates is easy. All you will need to switch is the information on your most recent BGE bill,It's important to realize that switching electricity companies will neither endanger your power supply nor improve the reliability of your electric service.

BGE will continue to deliver your electricity and maintain wires, poles, and meters. The only difference is the supply rate changes on your utility bill.
