The Illinois communities of Glenn Ellyn, Hinckley, Oak Lawn, and Somonauk have chosen the retail electricity supplier, Verde Energy USA, for their electricity aggregation programs. The municipal aggregation supply agreements include twelve municipalities and over 50,000 customers in the Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) service area. Contract lengths vary by community.

It is expected that customers will see an average of 40% savings on the supply portion of their electric bills through May 2013. All Glenn Ellyn residents will receive energy that is derived from 100% renewable sources. Oak Lawn, Hinckley, and Somonauk residents are able to individually enroll in the 100% renewable product.

Customers in these areas that have not already chosen a retail electricity supplier will be automatically switched from ComEd to Verde Energy. ComEd will continue to deliver the electricity, send bills to customers, and maintain the wires, poles, and other infrastructure that is used to deliver electricity.

The current Price-to-Compare in the ComEd service area is 8.319 cents per kWh. Verde Energy rates are guaranteed to be lower than ComEd rates, but customers may be able to find lower electric pricing through an alternative retail electricity provider. At any time, customers can opt out of the Verde Energy default supply and choose a retail electricity supplier of their choice.
