Constellation Energy to issue renewables certificates in Rhode Island
Constellation Energy announced on October 19, 2012, that it will now donate renewable energy certificates to match up to 100 percent of all energy consumption at the upcoming Rhode Island Manufacturers Association annual fundraising gala.
This year, the event pledged to go green, and will do so by receiving renewable energy certificates from wind farms around the country that will match the gala’s estimated consumption.
“We are excited to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability while promoting the purchase of renewable energy certificates to local and national manufacturers,” said Bill McCourt, executive director for the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association. “REC purchases support the development of renewable energy sources. They represent a convenient and affordable way for manufacturers to invest in the development of renewable energy generation and set themselves apart from their competition.”
Ed Wilson, vice president of associations at Constellation, added that Rhode Island was one of the earliest states to adopt a competitive electricity market, which has given businesses the opportunity to choose a provider with the best electricity rates.
“We’ve proudly sponsored this event since the formation of the Energy Program in 2006 and look forward to continuing a relationship that is providing Rhode Island businesses with affordable renewable Energy Choices,” he added.
