Experts in New Hampshire meet to discuss energy issues

A group of energy industry leaders and government officials will soon meet in New Hampshire to address issues that arising in the state’s energy sector, including the push to convince more people to switch energy providers.

According to the Union Leader, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, gubernatorial candidates Maggie Hassan and Ovide Lamontagne and one former assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Energy will all be on hand at the New Hampshire Energy Summit to discuss the latest issues in the sector.

One of the biggest concerns will be to entice more people to shop for the best electricity rates. Although New Hampshire’s market has been deregulated for some time, many people have not yet benefited from switching. However, this, says Dan Allegrette, a vice president with retail energy provider Constellation New energy, is beginning to change.

“We’re at a turning point in New Hampshire,” he said. “We’ve seen the residential markets grow in neighboring states like Connecticut and Massachusetts. I think we’re on the cusp in New Hampshire.”

Several representatives from the wholesale and retail markets will also attend to weigh on the situation.
