Texas retail energy provider TXU Energy has teamed up with Sheltering Arms Senior Services to announce plans for this year's 20th Annual TXU Energy Turkey Trot, which this year will feature a new 10K, 5K and Kids Race Course.

The updates were made to the race courses after receiving feedback from the courses last year, and with the event growing larger every year, the electric supplier said it hopes to improve the race on an annual basis. The run is the third-largest footrace in Houston, and this year's event is expected to attract as many as 15,000 athletes.

The changes to the race map did not, however, keep runners from traveling through the pleasant Galleria and Tangelwood areas.

"We hope that these route improvements will make for an even more enjoyable event for our participants and the more than 30,000 spectators we expect Thanksgiving morning," said Suraiya Culp of Luke’s Locker, which is Race Director for the TXU Energy Turkey Trot. "With the race just 47 days away, we look forward to another wonderful event benefiting such a worthy cause."

Retail energy providers often host such events to spread the word that Texas residents can shop around for the best electricity rate and switch energy providers.
