As temperatures continue to rise in Texas and residents keep their air conditioners running, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is working with utilities and retail energy providers to spread the word about energy conservation.
According to OA Online, ERCOT recently stated Texas broke an all-time record for peak power demand with 65,790 megawatts on July 31. To help keep demand manageable, and in turn keep electricity rates lower, TXU Energy is advising its customers to be smart about energy consumption.
"The Department of Energy said for every degree you set (the thermostat) lower, you can save about 6 percent for every degree," said Juan Elizondo, TXU Energy spokesman. Elizondo added that homeowners can make a difference simply by setting their thermostats at 74 instead of 72 degrees.
TXU Energy is one of the leading retail energy providers in Texas, and has made a name for itself by providing strong customer service. This is evident in the company's commitment to keeping customers' rates low by informing them how to conserve energy during peak demand periods, such as hot summer days.
