Ambit Energy, a Texas-based national retail energy provider, has increased its customer base by 155,000 since January 2012, and recently surpassed 850,000 customers – a milestone in the retail electricity market.

News of the benchmark came soon after the company was honored as one of the top 100 direct selling companies in the world, where it was ranked 15th.

"This type of growth validates our approach to the market," said Chris Chambless, Ambit Energy co-founder and chief marketing officer. "We developed a direct sales model capable of generating massive sales volume, as well as built a technology platform that scales seamlessly to support that channel."

The company says its momentum will continue, and expects to hit the 1 million-customer mark by the end of 2012 by providing affordable energy in deregulated states all over the country. Ambit says it plans to use excellent customer service to set itself apart from other retail energy providers.

With energy deregulation creating heated competition in a number of states, more retail electric providers are offering incentives to grow their customer base. Across the country, more than 20 states have implemented some form of energy deregulation.
