New Jersey residents gained another option for electricity service last month, as alternative electricity provider Stream Energy expanded its operations into the state.

The Dallas, Texas-based company, founded in 2004, has been steadily expanding its operations to the major competitive markets around the country, offering services in Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Georgia.

One of the largest direct selling companies in the country, Stream Energy has also been recognized as one of the nation’s fastest growing electricity companies, named as a finalist for the Platts Global Rising Star Award.

The company has struck a deal to offer competitive electricity rates for customers of Public Service Electric & Gas and Atlantic City Electric.

"This is an historic day for the Stream Energy and Ignite family," said Stream Energy Chairman Rob Snyder. "With roughly 2.1 million residential customers in the Public Service Electric & Gas and Atlantic City Electric service areas, this is a significant market for our continued growth. We know that our neighbors in New Jersey will greatly benefit from our competitive products and industry leading income opportunity."

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities notes that the company is added to dozens of electricity suppliers in each of those regions, serving to bring even lower electricity prices through competition.
