Green Mountain Energy, the longest-operating clean retail energy provider, recently began offering Pennsylvania residents clean energy that will be distributed through PECO and PPL, the region's largest utilities.
The Montgomery County Times Herald reports that by expanding into Pennsylvania, Green Mountain will increase its customer base even more so, all while lowering the U.S. dependency on fossil fuels. John Holtz, director of market development for Green Mountain, said it is a good opportunity for both the company and state residents.
"With electric shopping, the local utilities like PECO continue to be the poles and wires; they deliver the electricity and folks now get to choose from many electric suppliers," Holtz said. "We’ve always been an environmentally friendly company, but we also wanted to be people friendly. And a big part of that is educating folks about why green power renewable energy is important."
Pennsylvania has become an attractive choice for many alternative energy providers, as the recently approved energy deregulation laws have created a thriving market. Since the law's implementation, residents can shop around for electricity rates, as well as which source their electricity comes from.
