Green Mountain Energy chosen to provide energy for Houston park

Alternative energy provider Green Mountain Energy was recently chosen by Discovery Green, a 12-acre park in Houston, to deliver all of its energy, which will be generated by 100 percent renewable energy sources.

Discovery Green announced that the park will be powered entirely by wind energy from Green Mountain, and will provide electricity for events, concerts, lighting and operations that take place in the park. The retail energy provider will also sponsor an upcoming concert series in the park, which runs through October 25, 2012.

“Discovery Green was developed with a commitment to high environmental standards and operational efficiency – it is part of our core values,” said Barry Mandel, President and Park Director of Discovery Green Conservancy. “Our partnership with Green Mountain, who has been our renewable energy supplier since the park’s inception in 2008, helps us achieve our commitment to environmental sustainability.”

Retail energy providers have been finding great success in Texas, where energy deregulation laws support dozens of independent electricity suppliers. Often, these providers offer a green energy option, similar to Green Mountain’s, in which all energy is derived from renewable sources.
