FairPoint Communications has teamed up with retail energy provider Crius Energy to begin offering a 100 percent green retail Energy Choice to customers in Maine and New Hampshire, a move the company hopes will help it break into the retail energy market.

The new company will be named FairPoint Energy, and will combine Crius' established presence in the retail energy market with FairPoints strong reputation as leader in telecom products and services. By breaking into the sector, FairPoint Energy will provide customers with the best electricity rates possible, and deliver a completely green package.

"FairPoint Energy creates a real win-win for our customers, by saving them money and helping them contribute to a cleaner environment," said Tony Tomae, executive vice president and chief revenue officer for FairPoint Communications. "Enrollment is simple and seamless, allowing customers to sign up through the FairPoint call centers, easily selecting an alternative energy supplier while staying with their current utility company for distribution."

Retail energy providers are increasingly offering such green options, as there has been a higher demand for sustainable living styles.
