One of the interesting aspects of electricity deregulation has been the move to make people more involved with their electricity companies. Having the choice to switch electricity providers gives people a reason to want to know about where they are getting their power.

Probably the biggest success story in this regard is Bounce Energy. The Houston, Texas-based electricity provider has made a major name for itself in social media, announcing earlier in March that it is the most "Liked" electricity company on Facebook.

Starting only four years ago, Bounce already has more than 50,000 fans on its Facebook page, reaching that mark faster than any other electricity company.

"Incorporating social media strategies in the information age remains one of the most prominent missions for businesses of all shapes and sizes," the company explained in a statement. "It has become fiscally and organizationally irresponsible for a company to ignore the various social networking sites as a way to reach out to both existing customers and potential new customers."

Bounce has effectively used Facebook as a means of addressing customer concerns, giving people a way to contact the company that they are familiar and comfortable with.
