Bounce Energy, the Houston-based electricity provider, recently announced the introduction of its new Android app to help customers monitor their energy usage.
One of the key arguments for electricity deregulation was that the competition between alternate electricity providers and utility would lead to greater innovation in the market and greater service for customers.
As the electricity market continues to grow more competitive in Texas, this hope has been borne out. Bounce's new app, simply titled Bounce Energy Android App, offers mobile access to all of the electricity company's award-winning online resources, from bill payments to an energy savings calculator.
In November, the electricity supplier won an outstanding achievement award from the Interactive Media Council for its digital resources, in part including its mobile offerings. Bounce had already introduced its mobile platform for the iPhone earlier in the summer, and the company plans to continue developing its offerings, incorporating referral programs and rewards programs.
These kinds of mobile apps could prove more important in coming years as systems like smart grids allow for varying electricity prices based on time or demand, helping consumers maximize their energy savings.
