Most only look at one thing on their PSEG electric bill: the balance due. But if you're one of those people, you may be missing out on some key pieces of information that can help you understand and lower your energy expenses.
For instance, by knowing the difference between delivery and supply charges, you will grasp where your money goes every month and be able to determine if you can save by switching electricity providers. And if you want to know that, you'll also need to find your PoD ID.

PSEG Sample Electric Bill
Below, you will find the most important part of your PSEG electric bill. This breakdown of your electric charges lets you see all the different charges that go into your electricity bill.
Delivery Charges vs Supply Charges
On the left-hand side of the image above, there is one section titled delivery charges and one titled supply charges.
- Delivery Charges – This goes to PSEG to support the delivery of your electricity.
- Supply Charges – This goes to your electricity provider (which could be PSEG as well) and pays for the electricity you use.
If you want to switch electricity providers, the main thing that you need to understand is that delivery charges will stay the same no matter what. Your supply charges, the money that pays for the electricity you use, is the only section that changes.
So when you're comparing electricity rates, you want to use your electricity supply rate to see if you can save. If you get your electricity supply through PSEG, this rate is often called the Price to Compare.
Your PoD ID
Your PoD ID is located to the right of the "Details of your electric charges" section. You can find it in the bottom right-hand corner of the image above. This is the number that you will need to use if you end up switching electricity providers.
