Connecticut has the fourth-highest electricity rates in the country according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Not the worst but certainly not the best.
However, if you are a Connecticut resident looking for relief from your crushing electricity bills, there's hope.
In Electricity Rates's most recent energy report, we found you can obtain huge savings by switching electricity suppliers!
How Much Can You Save On Your Connecticut Electricity Supply?
Our report found that certain Connecticut residents can save up to 19% on their electricity supply by switching energy suppliers.
If you're a Connecticut resident, and the United Illuminating Company is your electricity supplier, your UI price to compare is 10.56 per kWh at the time of this writing. However, if you were to switch to Constellations 36-month fixed-rate electricity plan, your rate would drop to 8.59 per kWh.
The average US household uses 914 kWh of electricity per month. At that usage, that's the difference between paying $96.52 a month to $78.51 a month for electricity supply.
It is important to note that these savings are for your electricity supply (sometimes called electricity "generation" on your bill). Other fees for electricity delivery will still be determined by your utility provider.
The United Illuminating Company uses a variable-rate, meaning rates will increase and decrease over time based on market conditions. The savings above are based on the most recent rates.
The Constellation plan uses a fixed-rate. This means the rates are locked in at the advertised 8.59 per kWh for the full 36-month plan. So while you don't get the price decreases, it does protect you from surprise rate increases. What you see is what you get.
