Spark Energy, a Houston-based independent retail energy supplier, has announced it will plant a tree on behalf of each customer enrolling in a green energy plan in the month of April through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.

“As we continue our focus on green solutions, we are excited to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation on an initiative that directly impacts our environment,” said Nathan Kroeker, President of Spark Energy. “Best of all, many of these trees will be planted near the communities we serve.”

Customers enrolling in any of the company’s green energy products will have a tree planted on their behalf through one of three Arbor Day Foundation reforestation projects. “Spark Energy’s generous support of the Arbor Day Foundation is helping to restore critical ecosystems and important wildlife habitat,” said Dan Lambe, Arbor Day Foundation Programs Vice President.

Spark has recently expanded its green energy solutions to include both electricity and natural gas product offerings. Customers enrolling in either 100% renewable electricity products or the new carbon neutral natural gas products will be included in the tree planting initiative.

“We are very proud to now offer green energy solutions for electricity and natural gas,” said Luke Gottschalk, Director of Spark Energy’s Gas Portfolio Management. “This is an innovative approach to greening natural gas products. With our new carbon neutral natural gas products, we are able to help folks reduce their carbon footprints by offsetting up to 100% of their gas consumption.”

Beyond selecting a green product, no further action is needed from customers in order to have a tree planted on their behalf. Spark Energy has selected reforestation projects in Texas, Illinois, and California as the focus of this initiative. Complete details can be found at www.sparkenergy.com/earth-month
