Reduce Your Electric Bills in Baltimore
Baltimore has access to Maryland‘s finest energy: Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant backed by a large and growing renewable energy sector. Yet the price of energy is still above average.
Many Baltimoreans have turned to new companies to supply them with energy. There are many of these alternatives to BG&E out there, and ElectricityRates.com can help you find the one that’s right for you.
Switch and Switch Well
There are a number of different factors to consider when you think about switching electricity companies. The first thing you’ll see listed for each company is a rate. The rate matters, but you shouldn’t overestimate the price you see listed. That’s because a number of other factors go into determining how good of a deal you’re getting. They include:
Monthly changes in the pricing scheme. For some plans, you’ll pay the initial rate you see advertised. For others, you’ll pay a rate that varies from month to month. You should find out exactly how the company plans to change this rate. Note that a fixed rate plan may save you money if the market goes up; a variable plan will almost certainly save you something relative to your current rates.
Length of Contract. Electricity contracts can be one year, two years, longer, or shorter. Think about how long you want to be locked into the plan you’re choosing, since if you leave before your contract is over you’ll have to pay a termination fee.
Signup Bonuses. Find out what the company is offering you to sign up with them, and ask yourself whether you’ll still be satisfied with your deal after the honeymoon ends.
Electricity Source. You might want to consider factors other than price when you’re choosing an electricity company. Some plans allow you to specify that your power comes from a renewable source, like a solar plant or a wind farm. The rates for these plans aren’t always higher, and you’ll be doing a small part to help reduce pollution and promote green energy!
It’s important to realize that switching electricity companies won’t endanger your power supply. Nor will it improve the reliability of your supply if BG&E is trying to restrict your usage. The fact is that BG&E will continue to deliver your electricity; the only difference is the savings on your bill at the end of the month.
