Viridian Energy
New Energy Company Already Growing Steadily
Viridian is a new energy company (founded in 2009). It’s small but growing quickly, and it already operates in Illinois, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The company places some emphasis on its use of renewable electricity.
Become a Customer
Viridian offers two different types of plans: Everyday Green and Pure Green. These are both variable-rate plans, which fluctuate along with the market.
Everyday Green provides you with electricity sourced 20 percent from renewable sources (The other 80 percent presumably come from whatever sources are easily available in your area).
Pure Green is a 100 percent renewable power plan. It costs about 15 percent more (1.5 cents per kilowatt hour) and in exchange you have the knowledge that all of your electricity is coming from a renewable source of power.
Viridian also has plans set up for small businesses. For larger commercial and industrial enterprises, it’s worth contacting the company to see if they will cut you a deal!
Eco Credibility
Viridian takes pride in the fact that all of its products already meet the federal goal of 20 percent renewable power (proposed to be in effect by 2020). According to CEO Michael Fallquist, switching from dirty energy to this standard causes an energy consumer to reduce their annual carbon emissions by 588 pounds (the equivalent of planting 35 trees).
Each year, Viridian launches an environmental project somewhere on Earth. The company’s 2011 effort involved reforestation in the Brazilian Amazon; next year, they plan to go somewhere in Africa.
About Viridian
Viridian buys electricity on the wholesale market, then sells it to customers. Viridian states that it has a unique attitude towards this market; it promises its customers that it will seek to give them the lowest total cost over any given 12-month period.
The company has 40 core employees, but is heavily reliant on its 13,000 independent sales associates. These associates pay a fee for membership and then benefit from signing up new customers.
