Constellation expands customer base in Illinois

Residents in Marshall County and Toluca, Illinois, will now be able to receive their power from Constellation, a retail energy provider that currently supplies power to about 1 million customers around the nation.

The move allows Constellation to provide customers with energy at a comparable rate to larger utility prices. The company, a business arm of Exelon Corp., says it will supply 100 percent renewable energy to the new areas through the purchase of renewable energy certificates.

"Constellation is honored to offer residents in Marshall County and Toluca, Illinois both green energy and the fixed-price certainty and hassle-free low rates that we offer all customers," said Bruce Stewart, chief marketing officer for Constellation. "As a national energy leader with deep roots serving Illinois businesses, we look forward to continuing to invest in Illinois communities by offering a range of competitive market benefits to residents and small businesses."

Residents in Illinois, which has a deregulated energy market, are benefiting from increased competition in the state. With so many retail energy providers offering low electricity rates, a number of resources have been created by the state government and businesses to help customers switch energy providers.
