Compare Renewable

Among the huge field of providers competing in the deregulated electricity market, many are focused exclusively on promoting renewable electricity. Many more offer at least one plan using some amount of renewable energy.

If you’re shopping for a new electricity contract, the source of the energy is something you suddenly have power over. Rather than just get whatever electricity your local utility is shipping to you, you can direct your dollars towards the green power industry.

About Green Power

Green power generally refers to the production of electricity using renewable sources like wind and solar. Once the technology is installed, there’s very little cost–environmental or financial–to producing more power. The resulting (green) electricity is low on guilt and high in market value.

Many consumers and businesses are going out of their way to select the green option. It often doesn’t cost much more than dirty energy, and the rewards for the world are high. The more of our energy we get from renewable sources, the less we have to pollute the atmosphere with carbon dioxide and other byproducts of fossil fuels.

Comparison Shopping

There are a lot of different plans claiming to become environmentally friendly; these come in many different shades of green.

Often companies will offer two or more versions of their green electricity plan. Some of these will use renewable electricity, but a small percentage. Others guarantee that 100% of your power can be accounted for as produced by renewable sources. If you’re buying a green plan because you want to subsidize your favored source of energy, make sure you know what you’re getting!

Within the category of renewable energy, there’s still a lot of variety. Once you’ve narrowed down the field to companies that are satisfactorily green, you’ll be able to go through the normal process of comparison. You still have the power to choose a contract that has a length and rate plan that makes sense for you.

Do It Yourself!

If like taking matters into your own hands, it’s possible to elevate your commitment to green energy by installing your own renewable generator.

Powering your house with solar panels feels good and helps the environment. It could also very well save you money. It’s a large initial investment, but will pay itself back over time as month after month you pay no electricity bill. And right now, the federal government is subsidizing residential renewable power; it will reimburse you during the tax cycle for 30 percent of the cost of your project!

You’ll also be able to keep your power on when everyone else is blacked out. Indeed, if you’re producing a lot of energy, you might start turning a profit by selling it back to the grid!
